For over a decade, the GT-2000 series has stood as the quiet, reliable workhorse of the stability running category. It was the shoe you recommended to overpronating runners who wanted dependable support. At the same time without the heavy, tank-like feel of a maximum-stability model. However, according to early product sheets published by major retail outlets like Scheels, ASICS is preparing to shake up that traditional formula with the upcoming release of the GT-2000 15. By leaning heavily into modern super-trainer materials, the brand aims to make stability genuinely fun.

What Happened?

ASICS has officially announced the GT-2000 15, slated for a global retail release on August 1, 2026. This is not just a minor cosmetic facelift, but rather a structural re-engineering of the entire underfoot platform. The headline upgrade is the introduction of a reimagined FF BLAST™ MAX midsole foam, replacing the firmer materials used in previous iterations. This has started since the previous iteration but this time to further improve its comfort and energy return. According to technical documentation from Running Warehouse, this update has an additional 2mm of stack height compared to the outgoing GT-2000 14. This could provide the GT-2000 15 with a highly cushioned and bouncy landing.

Why It Matters for Runners?

In the past, runners requiring pronation control had to accept a harsh compromise. You either opted for a soft, lively shoe and risked rolling inward, or you chose a stable shoe that felt firm and blocky underfoot. From reviews and comments from runners, ASICS has been taken a big step in improving GT-2000 since version 13. Now, by packing a softer, more energetic foam compound into the midsole, ASICS is proving that stability and high-energy bounce do not have to be mutually exclusive. Often an either-or situation when we think about Novablast vs GT-2000. To cushion the heels of heavy strikers, ASICS updated the embedded PureGEL™ insert to be 65% softer than traditional GEL® technology. What would be interesting is how this can result in a cloud-like landing before a springy, trampoline-like toe-off.

Performance / Tech / Industry Implications

Rather than controlling the foot with rigid, intrusive medial posts, the GT-2000 15 continues to rely on the brand’s progressive 3D GUIDANCE SYSTEM™. This configuration provides adaptive support that only activates when your stride breaks down, keeping the overall ride feeling incredibly natural. On top of the midsole changes, the upper transitions to a premium engineered woven material that replaces the old engineered mesh. This swap promises a highly breathable, adaptive fit that locks down the midfoot while keeping overall weight to a minimum. ASICS is also keeping a close eye on environmental impact, explicitly noting that each pair is produced with a carbon footprint of only 10.4 kg of CO2e.

What Comes Next?

We do not have to wait very long to see how this dramatic overhaul performs on the road. The GT-2000 15 is scheduled to launch at a competitive retail price of USD150, making it highly accessible compared to premium max-stability shoes. We will be closely monitoring early tester reports to evaluate how the soft FF BLAST™ MAX compound holds up over high-mileage testing blocks. Once pairs land on our testing desk, we will put them through our standard multi-week assessment to see if this new, bouncy stability formula truly delivers on the run.

Is the GT-2000 Just a Stable Novablast?

As we observed ASICS’s products evoled over time, we noticed something. Newer platforms are now on FF Blast Max, the GT-2000 15 is as such and so are Gel-Cumulus 28 and Novablast 5/6. It is great that ASICS is implementing the great technology into more products. Yet, I do wonder if ASICS will soon be consolidating their product line-up a little. It seems that with the incorporation of the trampoline into the GT-2000 series, it is almost a Novablast-Stable. This is truly anyone’s guess but I think there might be benefit in doing some cleanup for consumers but also for their production chain and merchandising.
