Is the Kiprun Kipride the Ultimate Disruptor for 2026?

For a long time, the major running brands have dominated the pavement, often at the expense of the consumer’s wallet. As the price of standard daily trainers creeps toward the S$220 mark, entry-level offerings from these giants have frequently felt like an afterthought. They often are lacking innovation and “soul” of a good product. However, the tide is turning.

Decathlon’s Kiprun line has historically felt dated and very much lackluster. But their latest release, the KipRide and its other products, signals that they have finally caught up. When its announcement landed, we were very excited to see what it was up to. For the KipRide, it isn’t just a budget alternative, it is a serious competitor designed to provide a worthy ride for runners who care about performance as much as price. Here, we will share our thoughts with you about the Kiprun KipRide review after our first run.

Kiprun KipRide Initial Review & Thoughts

The Performance: A Midsole That Punches Above Its Weight

The standout feature of the Kiprun Kipride is undoubtedly the FastTech midsole. From the very first stride, the cushioning feel is reminiscent of premium foams like Saucony’s PWRRUN or the classic Adidas Boost. It manages to provide ample impact protection while maintaining a surprising amount of pop during cruising paces.

During my initial test run, the shoe felt perfectly at home at a marathon training pace of sub-5:40 min/km. What was even more impressive was its versatility when I picked up the pace to 4:45 min/km, the shoe didn’t feel out of place or “mushy.” Many daily trainers struggle when shifted into higher gears, but the Kipride lives up to its role, supporting the transition with a resilient and energetic rebound. I attribute this very much to the midsole performance of the KipRide.

The Fit: Narrow Uppers and Wide-Foot Nuances

While the midsole is a triumph, the upper construction requires some careful consideration, especially for runners with broader feet. Despite the wide 12.3cm forefoot on the outsole, the upper material itself runs quite snug. In my standard size US 11/EU 45, I found that the fit was tight enough to necessitate switching to a very thin pair of socks to remain comfortable. Sizing up to an EU 46 wasn’t a viable option, as it would have made the shoe too long for my foot. If you are a wide-foot runner, this is a critical detail, the standard thicker running sock might make this shoe feel restrictive, so plan your hosiery accordingly.

The Design Quirks: The Tongue and Chafing Concerns

Another area for potential improvement is the tongue design. During my run, I noticed that the tongue has a tendency to sit quite high on the ankle. Due to the specific material choice and the edge design, I experienced light chafing by the end of the session. It’s a minor design flaw, but one that could become a nuisance on longer training blocks if not managed with higher socks or anti-chafe measures. While the outsole durability is yet to be fully tested, the initial grip and ground feel were adequate for standard road conditions.

Conclusion & Key Takeaways

The Kiprun Kipride is a pleasantly surprising product that marks a new era for the brand. In an age where major labels are arguably neglecting their entry-level fans by offering “shambolic” budget shoes, Kiprun is doing the opposite. They are providing a high-quality, high-performance ride that can actually support a 4-hour marathoner’s training cycle. By offering this level of tech for a fraction of the price, Kiprun is effectively punching a hole in the “bathtub” of the major brands, draining away not just the price-sensitive customers, but also those who simply want a shoe that works. The Kipride proves that you don’t need a premium logo to get a premium running experience.

We will continue to test this pair out during our training and how it continues to perform over time perido and whether it fits our Daily Running option. For now, you can take a look at how the Kiprun KipRide looks at here. Till next time, just keep running.
