Last month, we identified the Kiprun Kipstorm Tempo as the Value Disruptor of 2026. After getting our hands on a pair and putting it through a rigorous initial test, it is clear that Decathlon’s performance brand isn’t just competing on price but also on sheer engineering. Following our recent comparison with the Kipride series, we now dive deep into why this shoe might be the most confident high-stack ride of the year.
Product Specifications (EU45 / UK10.5)
To understand the ride, we have to look at the dimensions. This is a massive platform designed for high-speed stability.

- Drop: 8mm

The Midsole Magic: Stability in the Clouds
On paper, a 46mm stack height should be a wobble-fest. However, during our initial runs, we found a level of confidence and assurance that is rare in the maximalist category. This is down to the clever CMEVA Cradle construction.

Kiprun has used a denser CMEVA foam as a bottom layer that runs the length of the shoe but narrows as it reaches the forefoot. This design allows the softer, more explosive Fastech+ foam to make slightly direct contact with the ground at the front. The result? You get the stability of a firm carrier in the midfoot, but the raw, unfiltered responsiveness of a superfoam during toe-off. Despite most of the bottom layer being CMEVA, the experience of the FastTech+ still comes through in each step.
Running Experience: The Pace Aid
The most surprising takeaway from our testing was the heart rate data. I found myself maintaining a significantly faster pace than usual while keeping a lower-than-expected heart rate. The Kipstorm Tempo doesn’t just want you to go fast, it aids you in staying there. It is a running shoes that encourages you to focus on the pace and effort that you want to go for.

Despite its height, the shoe feels planted. The grip on wet pavement, a common challenge for Singaporean runners, is standard and reliable, offering a more traditional bite than the ultra-flat outsoles seen on the Adidas Evo SL. It is a shoe that invites you to step into it with confidence, knowing the geometry is working to keep your gait aligned even as you push into threshold zones. Of course, you cannot expect grip when running across smooth metallic surfaces.
The Trade-off: The “Nightmare” Upper?
It is not all rosy and shiny crystal. At this price point, sacrifices have to be made, and in the Kipstorm Tempo, it is the upper. While the Sockfit construction is functional, it lacks the refinement found in its rivals. Think about the upper you get in major brands and you will get what I mean. I believe this is a fair prioritisation by Kiprun to deliver at this price point.
Overall, the materials on the Kipstorm Tempo feel overly structured and hard in certain areas which detracting from the overall comfort. For example, the logo printed onto the upper on the lateral side. Another area which I think Kiprun will need to figure out is the “tongue” which can fold in when you put it on. If Kiprun wants to truly dethrone the big brands, the next evolution must focus on a softer, more pliable upper that matches the dreamy quality of the midsole.
The Verdict: Performance for the People
Is it worth the S$149? Absolutely. If you are training for a long run where you need a partner that can aid you in hitting specific pace levels without breaking the bank, the Kipstorm Tempo is unrivaled. It delivers an unbelievable level of performance-per-dollar. It is a raw, aggressive tool for the runner who prioritizes splits over plushness. But don’t get me wrong, the comparison is more relatively than looking solely at the Kipstorm Tempo, especially on the upper.
In our previous comparison, we highlighted the Kipstorm’s aggressive nature compared to the Kipride. Our testing confirms this that while the Kipride is for the miles, the Kipstorm Tempo is indeed for the pace. Both represent the new era of Kiprun, but the Tempo is clearly the flagship for performance.
I am looking forward to taking this out for longer runs and more intensive runs. The goal here is to find its limitations and also to see its durability. We will definitely come back to you when we have run this product down! What do you think about the Kipstorm Tempo? Let us know in the comments! Till next time, just keep running.
