Here are some specifications of the Fresh Foam 680v8

  • The Fresh Foam 680v8 comes in at 268 grams or 9.5 oz with a 8mm heel-to-toe drop.
  • There is no known information about its stack height by the brand.
  • The Fresh Foam midsole has about 3% bio-based content to help reduce its carbon footprint.

Overall, the design of the 680v8 is very similar to that of the 880v14 and 1080v13. The key differences between the 680v8 and 880v14 are the (i) midsole with the 880v14 using Fresh Foam X and (ii) the overall build quality which is expected given the price range. In terms of outsole, it is similar the 1080v13 than the 880v14.

680v8 Fills the Gap in New Balance lineup for Affordability

New Balance has been increasing its price for its mainstream products such as the 880 as well as the Rebel over the years. This created a gap in its product offering where other brands still has good options for runners. Aside from the earlier versions of Fuelcell Propel whose price was lower than the current version, the next best option is Arishi v4 at SGD 119. (But I will say Arishi is more of atheleisure than truly for running. Not to mention it weights the same as the 680v8.)

Naturally, runners with a certain budget requirement and/or looking to start their running journey will bounce over to Competitors. For example, competitors such as Adidas has its Adizero SL, Nike has its Winflo, while ASICS has its Gel-Pulse, Dynablast and GT-1000 series. Hence, the availability of 680v8 now fits those who are looking for a versatile and comfortable running shoes. In terms of pricing, the 680v8 stands on a competitive ground vs the above mentioned.
