Welcome back to the Game, Nike
After a period of silence, Nike has finally released the update to the plated performance trainer in its line-up with the Zoom Fly 6. The Zoom Fly series has always taken a page off the Vaporfly series since the 3rd iteration. Search on Google and you will find the previous 2 versions looking very similar to the Vaporfly.

However, in the Zoom Fly 5, it was a huge departure from its product design. The base got widen, the shape of the midsole changed, and the overall package gained some padding. Depending on who you asked, there were those who like the new design and others who did not. The Zoom Fly 5 was a departure that Nike took and further solidify in the 6th iteration. The design inspiration is no longer from the Vapofly but the Alphafly.

What is New in the Zoom Fly 6?
Here is what we know about the upcoming Zoom Fly 6!
- This is Nike’s ultimate super trainer to provide best-in-class training and being a racing hybrid. Also meant All-in-One type of product.
- The new Zoom Fly 6 loses about 10% of its weight compared to its predecessor.
- It has a redesigned midsole and a full-length carbon fiber FlyPlate which is sandwiched between 2 types of midsole foams.
- Zoom Fly 6 comes with ZoomX and SR-02 foams, what a return of a classic. It makes me wonder how the distribution looks like. From the image, my guess is that ZoomX takes the heel and some of the midfoot area while SR-02 foam is at the forefoot.
- The upper has been redesigned with two-layer woven mesh systems to support breathability and ensure better durability.
- It will be released November 2024.
What is the Takeaway?
The Zoom Fly 6 is definitely a more refined product compared to its predecessor in my view. It will be interesting if the ZoomX is still the scrapped ZoomX we saw in the Zoom Fly 5. Overall the product showcased that Nike has given much thoughts to its position in the market and its portfolio. For runners looking at the Nike line up, one can clearly see a lineage in the Rival Fly, Zoom Fly, and AlphaFly today.
In view of competition, assuming the Zoom Fly 6 remains at the same price of SGD245 or USD160, there are many who have advanced ahead. The ASICS Magic Speed 4, the Puma Deivate Nitro 3, and even Adidas with its Adizero Boston 12 or Adizero EVO SL post stiff competition for Nike. I will not deny that the Zoom Fly 6 looks fantastic as a product. However, we will not be sure about its performance as well as its price which I believe will increase.
Till next time, just keep running.
