Introduction

The GEL-Nimbus 28 has officially arrived in Singapore, marking a significant “Kaizen” update to ASICS’ flagship neutral trainer. While the silhouette remains familiar to fans of the series, the 28 focuses on a substantial reduction in weight and a transition to a more modern, breathable upper construction to enhance the long-distance running experience.

Key Technology & Updates

The standout update for the Nimbus 28 is the weight loss. ASICS has shaved off approximately 25g from the previous version, the shoe aims for a smoother, less bulky feel during high-mileage efforts. Both models utilize PureGEL™ positioned strategically under the heel. This modern iteration of ASICS’ classic GEL™ technology is designed for high-level shock absorption and soft landings without the weight of traditional gel inserts.

The Nimbus 28 moves from the jacquard mesh of the 27 to a new Engineered Knit. This material is designed to wrap the foot more softly while reducing the need for additional overlays, providing a lightweight and breathable environment. A new tongue loop construction has been added to the 28 to make the shoe easier to slip on, complemented by a streamlined heel and pull-tab design for a more modern look.

Lastly, the Hybrid ASICSGRIP™ continues to be the foundation of the shoe, combining ASICSGRIP™ rubber with AHARPLUS™ materials. In the Nimbus 28, the outsole has been redesigned to maintain durability and traction while contributing to the overall weight reduction.

Summary & Conclusion

The ASICS GEL-Nimbus 28 retains the core identity that has made the series a go-to for neutral runners while successfully executing a lighter build. By maintaining the same 43.5mm/35.5mm stack height but reducing the mass, ASICS has created a more refined cruiser that is well-positioned for the upcoming 2026 racing season.

Are you a Nimbus fan? What are your thoughts for the new GEL Nimbus 28? Is it still as competitive in the market? Till next time, just keep running.
