For the past few years, Under Armour has been out of the scene when runners look for a carbon plated running shoes for their race day. Many of Under Armour’s competitions have released multiple iterations for their carbon plated race shoes and proliferate into trainers as well. However, that has since changed with the release of Under Armour’s Flow Velociti Elite.

The Flow Velociti Elite is now available at Under Armour Singapore webpage and stores. As of writing, 7th April 2023, it is not available on Under Armour’s United States webpage.

What is the UA Flow Velociti Elite?

Under Armour markets the Flow Velociti Elite as the long (i.e., Marathon) and mid-distance races choice for footwear. The brand said that the Flow Velociti Elite will provide an explosive feeling in a light and fast package.

The upper of the new Flow Velociti Elite utilize Under Armour’s Warp™ 2.0 upper optimizes containment with comfortable lockdown & allows for a certain level breathability. It has 2 layers of midsole which sandwiched the full length carbon fiber plate within. The top layer of the midsole is a Pebax-based midsole while the bottom layer is Under Armour’s Flow midsole. To help reduce weight, the Flow Velociti Elite has a rubberless configuration with the UA Flow midsole exposed to the ground.

In terms of the specifications, here is what we know.

  • Offset: 10mm (Official Under Armour PR puts it at 8mm)
  • Weight: 7.5 oz.

Opinions & Conclusion

It is a welcoming sight to finally witness Under Armour catching up with the other brands with their own carbon plated racer. The utilization of a Pebax-based midsole also enhances the appeal and performance of the Flow Velociti Elite on paper. At the price of SGD 299, it is one of the cheaper carbon plated running shoes you can get today if you consider it as the race day option. Personally, Under Armour is still far from being named as a leading running or runners’ brand. Its competition in the market has introduced ground-breaking and attention grabbing products over the past few years. For example, Saucony with its success in Endorphin Speed & Pro or Puma with its Nitro midsole technology.

The success story for Under Armour will be if their Flow Velociti Elite comparable to the other footwears in the grey zone above. This will help propel them forward and provide Under Armour with a strong branding in the performance footwear market.
