With a massive durability claim and a localized retail launch at Key Power Sports, Xtep’s latest workhorse is no longer a “secret” for Singapore runners.

XTEP, A New Home at Kallang Wave Mall

For a long time, Singaporean runners viewed Chinese brands like Xtep as internet mysteries, shoes you saw on Shopee or Lazada but couldn’t touch, feel, or try on. That has officially changed.

Xtep’s presence in Singapore has evolved from a digital storefront to a significant physical footprint. In a strategic collaboration with Key Power Sports, Xtep has launched its first overseas Xtep Running Club (XRC) at Kallang Wave Mall. This isn’t just a retail corner; it’s a dedicated hub where runners can explore the full portfolio, get expert advice, and most importantly, find their perfect fit before buying.

For Xtep, there is a new star in their lineup? The Xtep 2000KM 5.0! While the 2000KM series began years ago as a niche mileage eater in China, the 5.0 represents the series’ most refined version to date It has transformed from a just a mileage eater shoe to a legitimate performance trainer. And I have to say, this new update looks amazing. This is also a series we recommend as part of our Best Running Shoe Deals in Singapore under S$150

Product Specifications: What Makes the 5.0 Tick?

The 2000KM 5.0 is designed to be the ultimate daily workhorse. Here are what you need to know about the new product. In total there are five noteworthy areas for the 5.0.

(1) Outsole & Upper Wear Resistant

The brand has equipped the product with their XTEPDURA Technology with a marathon-grade CPU (Casted Polyurethane) outsole. It is said to be more durable than typical rubber outsole and running 2000KM is no problem at all. XTEP has also analyze the wear pattern of runners and added 3mm in high wear areas thereby boosting the durability.

Another area where XTEP has done alot in is for the upper material. The brand cited that their upper performed much better in terms of durability than industry standard. Be it lunging forward or toe flexing, you don’t have to worry about the upper giving way.

(2) Bidirectional Enhancement w/ Rocker & Front Propulsion

XTEP has cited that the 2000km 5.0 performs 5% better in speed/km by combining the rocker and a heel drop. With a 7mm heel drop, the 2000KM 5.0 positions the runner for a good front propulsion while the rocker supports smoother transition.

(3) Lightweight & High Bounce ACE Midsole

A key part to making the product great is to ensure that performance can be delivered in a lightweight package. For a mileage eater like 2000KM 5.0, this is key. Hence, XTEP has taken steps to ensure that the product is lightweight, coming in at just 223 grams for Mens EU 41 or Mens US 8. At the same time, they have increased the midsole stack height.

(4) Securing Your Foot with Light Stability

To deliver on the running experience, XTEP has ensure that runners still feel secured in the 2000KM 5.0. This is achieved through widening the midfoot area by 2mm while adopting a double-wing TPU embedded in the midsole. XTEP also shared that the design of the midsole has a higher inner and a lower outer heel design. However, I am not 100% sure how it enhances the stability.

(5) Deodorizing to Ensure Freshness w/ Antibacteria

The last aspect mentioned by the brand is how their insole is able to help runners avoid the embarrassment of smell when taking off the shoes. While not directly linked with the performance of the running shoes, for a product with high durability, you would’nt want it to stink.

An EV Moment For Running Shoes?

The arrival of many Chinese brands in Singapore and other bigger markets outside of China tells us something profound about the current market. We are witnessing the “EV moment” of the running shoe industry. Much like how Chinese Electric Vehicles (EVs) have disrupted the automotive market by offering premium tech at a fraction of the cost, Xtep and other Chinese running brands are doing the same for runners.

While Western brands have pushed daily trainer prices toward the S$180–S$220 range, Xtep is delivering a shoe with higher-tier materials (like Peba foam and CPU outsoles) for approximately S$106–S$130. In the past, Chinese brands had the perception of “cost effective”. But today, they are also catching up in terms of perfomance.

For the runner in Singapore and Asia, this means the barrier to entry for high-performance gear has collapsed. Runners are no longer requried to choose between a cheap shoe and a good shoe. To illustate, the 2000KM 5.0 while retail at S$149, it can be found below S$100. At this price point, it is going to be mainly the athleisure shoes you get from Western brand, not a pair of high performance running shoes.

Xtep is proving that Cost-Performance Ratio is the new metric that matters. As Chinese brands continue to catch up in design and retail presence, the established Western giants are being forced to justify their premium pricing or risk being left in the dust of a shoe that simply refuses to wear out. At the same time, will we start to see more runners being pulled away from the Western brands? Especially the runners who are more new, willing to try new brands, while balancing their investment to start running.

Would you try out the new XTEP 2000KM 5.0 or any other Chinese brands? Till next time, just keep running.
